5 Strategic Lessons from the Disastrous Israel/U.S. War Against Iran

Iran War

I’m not going to bore you with all that history. You could use some world news, though. Thank God for BBC and CNN. Such time savers! In summary, the United States of America has joined forces with Israel to attack Iran. This war has been going on since the 28th of February, 2026. Some believe it’s over oil possession in the Strait of Hormuz, others, nuclear weapons, and the rest, power. You can imagine the casualties!

Associations are often meant to be strategic, towards mutual benefit; however, everything has disadvantages. The tables could turn at any moment, based on interest, especially when it comes to looking out for the common good of nations.

There must always be that strong commitment to stick to an alliance, no matter the cost.

The good thing is, there’s nothing new under the sun, so we can glean life lessons from the Israel/U.S. and Iran experience.

Let’s Consider these Perspectives, and How We can Apply Them to our Lives.

  1. Just as your associations can be beneficial, they can be potentially deadly.

Siding with someone may make you an even greater target for their enemies than you can imagine. Why are the families of action men (good/bad) always in danger? Good striking point, huh! Why do kidnappers threaten their targets by capturing their immediate family members or inner circle, for ransom?

Iran strikes U.S. and Israeli allies in the Middle East, which seems viable, looking at the strong U.S. military base that the Americans have.

  1. Your actions and inactions have greater consequences on other people than you can imagine.

Whatever the reasons, oil reserves have been affected, and because they are in significant amounts, the global economy is in trouble. The top 10 global oil producers in 2025 are the United States, producing over 13.5 million barrels per day (mb/d), thus about 16% globally, followed by major producers Russia, Saudi Arabia, Canada, Iraq, China, Iran, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, and Kuwait.

Well, we in Africa don’t even dare to side with any of them, because in situations like this, as they say, when 2 elephants fight, it’s the ant that suffers.

  1. Be on guard always. Surprise attacks are part of life. Get some shock absorbers!

You never know when calamity may strike. I’m not sure the other countries anticipated any attacks from Iran. However, Dubai, a major tourist and business destination, is reported to have had to shut down its airports and business centres to ensure safety during this period. The country has also lost millions as major operations have had to be ceased.

Live your best life, one you’d be proud of if you died this minute. Can you imagine a U.S. aircraft accidentally bombing an Iranian elementary school?

  1. Strategy is key in winning, or at least losing with grace.

Iran realises that the US is a much larger nation and has well-protected territories, so they target US bases in countries in the Middle East, which are minding their own business, like Dubai.

It’s a sweet strategy to look for the loopholes in areas of long-term interest or values. Even David defeated Goliath, not with King Saul’s armour, but with the strategy of a stone and a sling/catapult, backed by faith. Watch a summary of the Trojan Horse story.

  1. Be prepared to make temporary sacrifices for permanent long-term successes.

In all this, Iran seems to be “losing”. Many casualties have been recorded in Iran, more than in the others. Iranians have lost their Supreme Leader, Khamenei, and other astute nuclear scientists. Many civilians have also died, including elementary school children, yet Iran seems more geared up to defend itself. Amidst controversies from Trump and his cohorts on why their position in this war is still entrenched, the U.S. does not seem like it’s going to bury the hatchet anytime soon, until now.
